Principote: beyond just a Sound System

Principote, one of the best and most popular beach club-restaurant of Mykonos, is located on the pristine beach of Panormos and is fully harmonized with the natural beauty of the landscape, giving the impression that it is its natural continuation…
Its high aesthetics, its unique decoration, its intangible treasures, its luxurious and at the same time familiar environment together with the unique gastronomic experience and the discreet service it offers to its guests, rightly rank it among the top destinations of Mykonos.
As of this year, the demanding visitor has another serious incentive to be at Principote:
Its top sound, which has been added to the intangible treasures of the "principality".
And we include it in the "flutes", because the high sound fidelity is for the ears, that the refined flavors for Gastronomy…
And if the 'good sound' is immediately and consciously understood by the 'purists' of audio with the cultivated aesthetics and the trained ear, the majority of the patrons of a beach club-restaurant like Principote, perceive it experientially, through an unconscious process, which makes them relax even more and welcome the emotions of music and the vibes of space with greater well-being;
Principote and Adamson
As we said, this year, at a particularly difficult time for tourism and catering worldwide, Principote decided to proceed with the purchase of permanent sound equipment according to its environment and class and this created a pleasant and unique challenge, with the demands that were assigned to the company of Meletis Kariotis (MELETIS KARIOTIS IKE) which undertook the design, design, supply and installation of the equipment, to be the following:
1. To deliver a high quality sound system, equal to the services provided on site.
2. To be able sound to be controllable at all levels of the club area and on the beach, but can be partially controlled in 11 zones.
3. To be weather resistant as the Principote is literally on the sand nearby the sea.
4. Finally, to be fully harmonized with the aesthetics of the space.
The installation series of ADAMSON with the highest construction specifications, the high sound fidelity and the Kevlar loudspeakers made its choice one-way by the company of Meletis Kariotis, as he characteristically told us.
Kevlar trump cards
As the installer told us, Kevlar, as the material for the construction of the loudspeaker cones, played an important role in the selection of the system, both by the site managers and by the installer himself.
As has been known since the mid 80's when it was created as a company, Adamson uses Kevlar in the speakers it manufactures, as it is a material with a high coefficient of rigidity, linear behavior when moving, particularly resistant to both stress and high temperatures, as well as in the 'difficult' environmental conditions (humidity, pressure, etc.), while in terms of its sound behavior it remains quite neutral and 'colorless'.

A total of 76 speakers were installed in the individual points and the 11 independent coverage areas of Principote, which are as follows:
22 cabs Point Source IS10P
The IS10p is a 2-way, full range point source speaker, which incorporates 2x ND10-LM Low-Mid drivers (2x 16 Ω) and a compression driver, the NH3-8 1.4 ”(8 Ω). Its spherical waveguide achieves a coverage diagram of 70 ° x 40 ° or 100 ° x 50 ° on a horizontal and vertical axis respectively, while rotating in 90 ° ‘steps’.
In addition, the waveguide design ensures a harmonious tonal balance even when the listener moves outside the intended coverage diagram, thus ensuring a natural sound without distractions and unwanted lobes.
Its cabin is particularly robust as it is made of birch plywood, its high rigidity is ensured by the use of aluminum and steel used in aircraft construction, while it also has a built-in rigging system.
The frequency response of the speaker ranges between 60Hz - 18kHz, its maximum SPL is 139dB and its weight reaches 25 kg, while it also supports Lake processing, like the other models in the Adamson IS series.
30 cabs Point Source IS7P cabins
IS7p is the smaller sibling of IS10p with whom they share the same HF compression driver.
Specifically, this is also a 2-way, full range point source implementation, which ‘wears’ 2x ND7-LM Low-Mid drivers (2x 16 Ω) and the NH3-8 1.4 ”(8 Ω) compression driver.
It uses the same waveguide as its older brother and therefore has the same coverage diagram (70 ° x 40 ° or 100 ° x 50 ° on the horizontal and vertical axis respectively, while here too the waveguide is rotatable by 90 ° 14 cabins IS119 Sub
The IS119 is the largest subwoofer in Adamson's IS-Series.
"Wears" a 19 "ND19-S Kevlar Neodymium driver to the standards of Adamson Advanced Cone Architecture. It is a front-loaded implementation of low reflection architectural charging (with the expansion holes located on the front buffer next to the woofer) and is designed for the pure reproduction of low end music information.
It has two pairs of Speakon NL4 connectors (one pair front and one rear so that its interconnection remains functional even in a heart-shaped set-up)
The frequency response of the sub ranges between 30Hz - 100kHz, its maximum SPL is 138dB, its size is quite ‘packed’ and its weight is 46.5 kg.
10 cabs IS118 sub
IS118 is the companion subwoofer of IS7.
It "wears" an 18 "woofer and specifically the ND18-S Kevlar Neodymium driver to the standards of Adamson Advanced Cone Architecture. And this is a front-loaded implementation of a low reflection architectural charging to the standards of its bigger ‘brother’.
The sub frequency response ranges between 35Hz - 100kHz, its maximum SPL is 133dB, its size is even more 'packed' than the IS119 and its weight is only 30 kg.
Note that all units were ordered and delivered with a special color order from the factory, which is what you see in the photos…
The amplifiers used to drive and control the system are a total of 15 4-channel Lab Gruppen of the top PLM series with integrated Lake Processing digital unit.
More specifically, the following were used:
3 PLM20000Q Lab Gruppen and
12 PLM10000Q Lab Groups
The management of the signals and the driving of the system in 11 independent zones was assigned to a DiGiCo S21 mixer, which was selected to be able to fully meet the needs and requirements of even the most demanding events organized by Principote.
The audio transmission to the amplifiers was done digitally with DANTE protocol at 96 kHz, through the DANTE DMI card borned by DiGiCo, while the control of the bands is done remotely through the corresponding application of S21 from an iPad.
Principote Sound System
With the selection of this equipment, PINCIPOTE MYKONOS joined the top club restaurant with ADAMSON SOUND SYSTEM in Europe, such as Ushuaia IBIZA, among others.
As Marios Kariotis, who supervised the set-up, measurements, etc., as well as Meletis Kariotis, who had the general supervision and supervision of the entire installation, told us: ΄"the result is amazing and justified everyone, both the Principote itself which made such a big investment in such a special period, and now has a permanent sound system of its own worthy of its level and other benefits, as well as ourselves for our choice.
The sound is uniform and clear at all levels and zones of the space, and at all levels of sound pressure, even at the highest, while the management is complete for each zone and is achieved in the most user-friendly and flexible way. Most important of all, however, is that we have harmoniously and effectively integrated an excellent sound system, such as that of Adamson, into the distinct spirit of the Principote. "
